Entrepreneur
Dana’s own entrepreneurial background gives him a unique approach in his profession. Dana started his first business when he was 20 years old, when he hired fellow college students and built a significant landscape business in Orange County, California. He grew quickly by acquiring a struggling landscape company and then landing municipal contracts and four years later sold that business in order to open a cafe. Dana has been involved in ownership and management of a dozen businesses, and has found his greatest success in turn-around opportunities.
Because Dana has engaged in extensive business ventures, his other activities are informed by this background. His lawyering is client-centered; his understanding of the client’s perspective allows him to align his advice with the client’s needs. His speaking and lecturing are not abstract; he’s been there “in real life” doing what he’s teaching. Dana’s M&A consulting combines his legal expertise with his intimate knowledge of The Deal from having been through The Deal as a principal numerous times. Finally, Dana’s investing flows from his own experience as an owner/operator, rather than a mere financial investor. He brings something deeper to his investments because of his own experiences.
